Our Youth in Mind

Youth in Mind Outreach Services (YIM) is a group of programs designed to support young people aged 12–25. Our Outreach Model of Service provides support in the community through individual counselling, case management, and group programs that promote mental health and wellbeing.

Our free and confidential services are delivered across the North and North West of Tasmania by a team of experienced social workers, psychologists, case managers, project managers and other mental health professionals.

Youth Counselling (CYC)  


We provide free and confidential counselling and support for young people aged 12-25 who are experiencing a range of issues affecting their mental health and wellbeing. Support is available for up to 12 sessions.

This service is available to young people living in the North and North West of Tasmania. We offer appointments in our office or via telehealth. Outreach services are provided on a needs basis at designated community locations.

We can support young people who are:

  • feeling down, stressed or worried
  • experiencing anxiety or depression
  • having difficulties with family, friends or relationships
  • struggling at school or work
  • wanting to talk about sexuality or gender identity
  • not feeling like themselves, or having worrying thoughts, feelings, or behaviours


Our clinicians provide therapeutic counselling and can support with:

  • creating a plan to work through challenges
  • communicating with your GP to support your care
  • identifying triggers and providing tools to manage them

     

Referrals

Most referrals come from your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist under a Mental Health Care Plan (MCHP). We also welcome self-referrals, as well as referrals from health professionals and service providers. If you’d like more information, you can also contact us or submit an online enquiry.


What happens after a referral?

Once we receive your referral, we’ll contact you to book a phone consult. At this consult, a clinician will discuss your needs, explain the program, and answer any questions you may have.

The Short Term Psychological Interventions Program is Supported by Primary Health Tasmania under the Australian Government’s Primary Health Networks Program.

Youth 
Engagement Team (YET)

Our team of mental health professionals provides structured psychological therapies designed to support young people facing complex mental health challenges that significantly affect their emotional well-being and daily functioning. Through evidence-based therapeutic interventions and personalised support, we work to reduce risk factors, promote recovery, and empower young people to reconnect with their social and support systems, including family, friends, work, and study.

This service is available to young people living in the North and North West of Tasmania for up to 12 months. We offer flexible appointments and can meet with you at home, in our office, or wherever works best for you.

 

Our clinicians provide support with:

  • working with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that supports your needs and goals
  • helping you connect with a doctor, psychiatrist, or other professional if you need support with a diagnosis or medication
  • identifying and understanding your triggers, and offering practical tools and strategies to help you manage them
  • strengthening relationships with family, friends, and other important people in your life
  • supporting your access to other support services to have the resources you need
  • supporting you to use therapeutic tools learned in session into your everyday life to support your progress
  • connecting you with opportunities in education, employment, and social networks
  • offering practical support, such as getting to appointments

West Tamar Youth

young Aboriginal 
support program (yAsp)

We provide free and confidential case management and group activities for young people aged 12–25 who self-identify as Aboriginal.

We support young Aboriginal people experiencing a range of issues affecting their health and wellbeing by offering individual support that focuses on cultural safety and connection.

This service is available to young people living in the North of Tasmania, including Launceston and surrounding areas.  We offer flexible appointments and can meet with you at home, in our office, or wherever works best for you.

  • looking to connect with culture and other Aboriginal young people
  • feeling down, stressed, or worried
  • having problems with family, friends, or relationships
  • finding school or work challenging

 

Our Case Managers can help with:

  • listening to your needs and developing a support plan
  • connecting you with education, employment, and social networks
  • supporting access to groups and community resources
  • offering practical support, such as getting to appointments

Group Activities

Our Project Managers run a range of group activities that support young people connect with community. These include:

  • cultural and arts-based programs
  • health and wellbeing sessions
  • school holiday activities

Our groups are a safe and supportive space where you can take part in fun activities and meet other young people.

  • linking you into our group programs
  • helping you take part in fun activities and events
